Are you ready for the wildest new movie premiere you see on Netflix this month? By a long shot, the craziest film premiere hitting the platform in July has to be Secret Obsession, which eschews the recent trend of Netflix romantic comedies for something a little more Lifetime. After tackling rom-coms and Hallmark-esque holiday movies, campy thrillers were the obvious next hurdle to cross, and if anyone can turn in great guilty pleasure, it’s Netflix.

Brenda Song stars in Secret Obsession as Jennifer, a newly wed who finds herself attacked at a rest stop. As she heals from the attack, she can’t seem to remember her life prior to the incident or the attack itself. Russell (Mike Vogel), Jennifer’s husband, brings her home to their private mountain estate, where Detective Paige (Dennis Haysbert) searches for her attacker, motivated by his daughter’s disappearance. But he must hurry to learn the dark truth about Jennifer’s situation or she might end up with a similar fate.

Secret Obsession comes from director Peter Sullivan, who has helmed such hit television films as The Dog Who Saved Christmas and Hallmark’s Christmas Under Wraps. The film will make its world premiere on Netflix on July 18, where it will surely become the summer’s guilty pleasure movie of choice, not unlike Netflix’s other original fare of late. Secret Obsession opens the streamer up to compete with the Lifetime movie approach, and it’s not to be missed.
