As promised, July will be a good month for the littlest binge-watchers in your life. We’ve already highlighted three great kid-friendly selections and there are still so many more to come. If you have children, one of the movies that will without a doubt be playing round the clock in your home is The Croods, but the Netflix original animated series based on the film has probably already been on repeat in your house anyway. Ahead of the upcoming sequel, The Croods is one of July’s best.

The Croods centers on the titular prehistoric family that happens to live during an especially dangerous period of time. The family’s patriarch Grug (Nicolas Cage), matriarch (Catherine Keener), daughter Eep (Emma Stone), son Thunk (Clark Duke), and grandmother Gran (Cloris Leachman) spend their days gathering food and their nights huddle with each other in a cave. Guy (Ryan Reynolds), more civilized caveman, arrives and helps the Croods realize the impending destruction of their world.

Following its release, The Croods garnered mostly positive reviews from critics, amounting to a 71% fresh rating on Rotten Tomatoes. The film was also a financial success, bringing in a whopping $587.2 million worldwide against a $135 million production budget. The Croods was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Animated Feature and was spun off into the Netflix animated series Dawn of the Croods. Before the sequel arrives in theaters next Christmas, be sure to become reacquainted with The Croods when they stream on Netflix at the end of the month.
