There can’t be a summer watch-list without a baseball movie. Surprisingly, there aren’t many baseball movies streaming on Netflix. But the streaming service does have 42, which is one of the more recent baseball films and arguably one of the best.

42 is a biographical film that tells the story of how Major League Baseball defied color barries in 1946 by allowing the signing of Jackie Robinson. The movie follows Robinson’s (Boseman) journey as the only African American playing in the league. He’s signed to the Brooklyn Dodgers by manager Branch Rickey (Ford). Despite the signing, Robinson was tasked with racial tension among fellow players and fans.

The extraordinary figure is well-known to sports but there was much of his story that was left untold before the movie premiered. The movie received favorable reviews from critics as many viewers praised the performance by Boseman in his portrayal of Jackie Robinson. 42 also launched Boseman’s career as a lead star as he later won the part of Black Panther in the MCU.
