Harry and the Hendersons is one of the best feel-good movies of the ’80s. It debuted in the summer of 1987 but has since gone on to become a classic. The movie was directed by William Dear who was also known for his work on Angels in the Outfield and Wild America.

The movie centers on a Seattle family after they encounter Bigfoot. They accidentally hit the creature with their car so they take it home, thinking it was dead. The Bigfoot, which they later name “Harry,” soon wakes up. At first, the Henderson family are afraid of Harry but he soon shows that he is a gentle creature. He becomes part of their family but they have a hard time keeping his existence a secret. Keeping Harry safe is the family’s top priority.

Harry and the Hendersons wasn’t a huge hit with critics but it’s a perfect family movie to watch in the summer. It’s funny but it also teaches important lessons about family and acceptance. A TV series based on the movie came out in the early ’90s and ran three seasons.
