The fantasy crime film was released by Netflix in December of 2017. It was not received well by critics but viewers made the project a huge success. Bright was directed by David Ayer who is known for his work on End of Watch, Fury, and Suicide Squad.

The movie is set in an alternate world where humans and mystical creature co-exist. It centers on an LAPD officer Daryl Ward (Smith) and his orc partner Nick Jakoby (Edgerton). Nick is the nation’s first orc officer so he faces much criticism from his fellow co-workers and citizens. The partners are eventually tasked with protecting an elf girl as they also deal with growing racism and police corruption.

Shortly after Bright was released, it became one of Netflix’s most-watched programs. Netflix quickly ordered a Bright sequel with Ayer back in the director’s chair. Much of the main cast is also set to return. Filming will reportedly end this year so it seems likely that the project will hit Netflix sometime in 2020.
