Lucifer season 5, the final season of the series, will consist of 10 episodes, according to showrunner Ildy Modrovich.

There are only 10 episodes of Lucifer left, according to Lucifer showrunner Ildy Modrovich.

Like the fourth season, Lucifer season 5 will also have 10 episodes. Modrovich tweeted the episode count in response to a fan’s question about the final season and the number of episodes that would be in it, according to a report from TV Line.

Most assumed 10 episodes would be the final episode count for season 5. Netflix doesn’t change episode counts too often, and with season 4 being 10 episodes, it made sense that the final season would also have that many episodes, as well.

To me, 10 episodes is the perfect number. I really like the first three seasons of Lucifer, but I don’t think the story benefitted from 20-plus episode seasons. Most shows don’t need that many episodes, and Lucifer is one of those shows. The story gets drawn out over the course of the season.

Lucifer season 4, which was also 10 episodes, felt much more complete to me. It was a quicker binge-watch, but it was very entertaining and captivating all the way through the season. There was no downtime, and that’s a good sign for season 5.

With 10 episodes left, there will be no time for the fluff that a 20-episode season might provide. It’s going to be all story all the time, and that should be very reassuring for all fans of the series. Yes, it’s a bummer the show is ending, but Modrovich, Joe Henderson, and the rest of the writing team have every opportunity to make season 5 something great and finish this series the right way.

This news is, again, pretty bittersweet for Lucifer fans. This show is lucky to have the opportunity to go out on their own terms after getting canceled at FOX, but it’s still a real bummer that this is the end of the series.

I know there were a lot of fans hoping for a two-part, 20-episode season, so this is obviously bad news for those fans.

We also recently learned that the writing team for Lucifer gets started in July. That puts season 5 on pace for a late spring or summer 2020 release date. Stay tuned for more news about the final season.
