The latest episode of Fear The Walking Dead dropped some major bombshells on audiences. Check out our breakdown of Season 5, Episode 3 below.

Fear The Walking Dead’s fifth season kicked off with a fairly simple premise which can be summed up to Morgan (Lennie James) and his friends helping any survivors left in the world. They vowed to complete Polar Bear’s mission in Season 4 but have run into an unexpected problem: Logan (Matt Frewer). He reclaimed the old C&L denim factory after Morgan’s group left the site unguarded, setting their goal back quite a bit. Now they’re fighting to recapture what’s theirs but they’ve come across another troubling issue.

In Season 5, Episode 3 “Humbug’s Gulch”, Alicia (Alycia Debnam-Carey) manages to contact Annie (Bailey Gavulic) over the radio again. They attempt to arrange a meet but an interruption in transmissions forces Alicia and the others to chase the kids down.

After driving down the same road for a few miles, the group notices Annie’s van parked on the side of the road. The strange thing is that it’s covered in blood and walker guts. Alicia and her friends approach the vehicle cautiously only to find that Dylan (Cooper Dodson) is still inside. He’s also covered in blood but appears to be unharmed. The episode cuts to black shortly after.

At this point, fans begin to question what kind of demented psychopaths could be responsible for torturing/killing children. But then that’s when the truth is exposed.

As it turns out, Annie and her friends were the ones placing all those undead roadblocks in the nearby area. They don’t explain their actions so audiences are undoubtedly questioning what these kids’ motivations could be.

Additionally, the latest episode of Fear The Walking Dead left us with more questions than ever. In lieu of that, we’ve compiled together a list of the most burning queries on fans’ minds after watching “Humbug’s Gulch”.

5. What are the kids protecting?

In case you missed the promo for next week’s episode entitled “Skidmark”, the clip hinted at Annie keeping a specific site from being found. Dialogue between her and Max (Ethan Suess) confirmed that they’re going to corral their new friends in a new direction, away from them. They don’t say much else but we definitely know they’re protecting a very large secret. The question is: What could be so important in the apocalypse?

4. Is someone else forcing Annie and her friends to protect the area?

The prospect of what the kids are protecting is important but the more pertinent concern is who’s running the show. Annie and Dylan don’t seem to have the resources needed to line up a perimeter of undead so it goes to reason that they had help.

From who is up for debate, though the most logical answer is the military group who captured Althea (Maggie Grace). Annie briefly mentions Al during her conversation with Max in the promo for “Skidmark”, implying that they have knowledge of her whereabouts. If they do, the mystery soldiers probably hired Annie and her friends to help protect the area. Or, perhaps Annie’s group is part of their community — only time will tell.

3. What happened to Sherry?

As most of us are aware, Dwight (Austin Amelio) made his FTWD debut during last night’s episode. This came about when John (Garret Dillahunt) and June (Jenna Elfman) stumbled across the Walking Dead alum in an old western ghost town. Their initial interactions weren’t on the best of terms but they eventually come to an accord.

Once everyone is on the same page, Dwight begins asking questions about Sherry. John and June found her old car at the campsite in episode two “The Hurt That Will Happen”, giving reason to why Dwight became so interested in the vehicle. June reveals where they found it and the truth, suggesting that Sherry was among the dead in those cabins. Dwight responds to the news by preparing to end his life.

The good news is that John’s policing skills reveal that Sherry might not be dead after all. He discovers that the vehicle registration in which she left a note for Dwight wasn’t actually of the van they recovered, renewing Dwight’s hope in finding his wife. Of course, we shouldn’t be surprised to learn that Sherry was inside the cabin full of radioactive zombies either.

2. Is Dwight a permanent member of Morgan’s group now?

It seems fairly obvious after seeing Dwight standing alongside his new group of friends but we still don’t know if the former Savior will remain with Morgan and the others. Dwight is ready to tackle a horde of undead with them but that doesn’t mean he’ll stick around for good, especially if they find Sherry.

Assuming she’s in good health and manages to be reunited with Dwight, there’s a good chance they’ll ride off into the sunset together. Dwight’s focus is solely on her so he might not see any reason to stay once that happens.

On the other hand, Sherry could be the one who persuades Dwight to remain with the FTWD crew. Her current motivations are unknown but Sherry will probably want what’s best for her husband. She knows the world is a cruel one — and one that shows no sympathy to survivors like them — so it makes sense for her to want to change that. Then again, Sherry’s possible death can set Dwight on an entirely different path — a path that mirrors Negan’s character-arc on The Walking Dead.

1. Has anyone else from The Walking Dead secretly made the jump?

When Morgan and Dwight are reunited, they briefly discuss the route they used to get to Texas. Morgan mentions two specific highways which seem to be the only ones used to travel South. Dwight confirms that he used one of them, implying that the route is known to travelers coming from the North. The reason fans should be paying close attention to the route is that other characters may have already used it to cross over.

No one really important from TWD has gone missing but a few characters have. Heath (Corey Hawkins), specifically, has become the subject of much speculation as fans have suspected of him going to Fear The Walking Dead’s corner of the universe. Angela Kang confirmed that Heath was taken by the Helicopter People so their resurgence on Fear The Walking Dead could mean Heath is closer than we think. Perhaps he’ll make a cameo later this season.

In any case, the people who took Heath and anyone else traveling South probably wound up taking the same roads. Therefore, it goes to reason the last remaining routes will be heavily occupied in future seasons.
