In Season 5, Episode 3 of Fear The Walking Dead, Dwight (Austin Amelio) finally comes out of the woodworks. Though, his arrival presents a potential problem for Morgan’s group. Continue reading for our recap of “Humbug’s Gulch” below.

When the latest episode of Fear The Walking Dead kicks off, June (Jenna Elfman) and John (Garret Dillahunt) stumble into a Western-style ghost town. The area seems deserted but that’s when walkers begin shambling towards them. John attempts to fend them off when someone unexpected gets the jump on him.

Before John can even react, Dwight appears with his gun raised. He begins frantically asking John where he got the van he was driving from, suggesting he’s about to shoot. Dwight doesn’t explain himself, he just keeps fixating on the vehicle. A shootout is moments away from breaking out when June surprises them both, knocking the TWD alum unconscious.

The exchange draws walkers towards the location so June and John carry Dwight inside one of the buildings. They question him in an attempt to pry information from him which initially doesn’t work. John keeps trying and eventually breaks through Dwight’s tough exterior.

Once they’re all on the same page, John, June, and Dwight regroup to escape the horde of walkers surrounding them. John works out a plan to use the roofs to get to the car but Dwight has plans of his own.

On the outside, the three survivors clear a path to the sedan waiting for them. Everything appears to be working out until Dwight turns around and runs in the opposite direction. He then hops into the van that John and June were driving. He searches for possible clues from Sherry but finds none.

Without any more clues to go on, Dwight resorts to repeating his questions again. June doesn’t know what to say but then she remembers the campground where the van was. Everyone was either burnt in the ground or shambling around as undead, making Sherry’s fate a dark one to consider.

When Dwight hears about the location, he fears the worst, and for good reason. He begins to believe that his journey has reached its’ end and contemplates putting a bullet in his brain. Dwight comes extremely close to pulling the trigger but then June convinces him not to. It’s a struggle but June pulls Dwight back from the brink.

With their new friend on board, they have another problem to solve: walkers. He’s surrounded by a small horde and the trio only have a handful of old-school guns to fend them off with. The good news is that John’s past as a crack shot marksman makes him the perfect person to remedy the situation. He even uses an ax head to finish off the last two — and it is a spectacle to behold.

The episode closes out on a positive note with John and June sharing one of the most meaningful embraces they’ve ever experienced. The moment is definitely a special one and will undoubtedly make fans want to see more. Unfortunately, that’s not how the episode ends.

Rather than ending with a beautiful moment shared between John and June, the last few minutes shift focus back to Dylan and Annie — the kids they met earlier in the season. Annie gives Alicia their location but it turns out to be a ruse.

Alicia and the others wind up finding the kids’ van on the side of the road, with it covered in walker guts. Alicia, Morgan, and all of their friends are shocked by the sight so they begin questioning Dylan about who might’ve done such a thing. What they don’t know is Annie manufactured the whole scheme to steer people away from a particular location. The question is: what are the kids hiding?
