1. The Crown

The series centered around Queen Elizabeth II’s life, The Crown is set in England beginning in Elizabeth’s younger years in 1947 and onward. Perhaps one of the most adventurous series made by Netflix, The Crown is set to last for six seasons and will feature new actors and actresses playing the same characters every two years. The series will follow Elizabeth’s life until presumably the present.

The series is obviously based on real-life events and people, so the care it must take in order to represent these events correctly is a huge undertaking. The previously mentioned aspect of signing new actors to portray these characters is a brilliant move to give different viewpoints to the characters at various points in their lives. So far the Queen has been portrayed by Claire Foy (seasons one and two) and will be portrayed by Olivia Colman (seasons three and four). Of course, all the real-life people tied to Queen Elizabeth will likely be shown in one or two seasons, depending on how involved they were.

The Crown perhaps is the crowning achievement by Netflix as of late. As far as original programming goes it has eight Emmy awards and many more nominations. Between its outstanding acting performances and the dedication to accuracy in the costuming, The Crown simply is the overall best series to watch on Netflix.
