Peaky Blinders season 5

2. Peaky Blinders

This crime-drama set in England post-World War I centers around the Shelby crime family. A gang known as the Peaky Blinders, which in fact is based on a real-life gang active in the late 1800s. As with many mafia-esque shows, the ins and outs of crime are tumultuous at best. The participants in this gang all are trying to make money, settle down, and also not lose any respect. These tenants never seem to succeed as plenty of new foes and opportunities present themselves during the series.

The family is first known for their running of guns in and out of their territory but move on to legitimate and illegitimate business ventures in hopes to expand their power. Most of the men in the family served in World War I and experiences there lead to trauma and complications with business dealings. However, the leader, Tommy Shelby (played by Cillian Murphy), is a cunning businessman and seems to be one step ahead at all times.

Another BBC product that Netflix bought a stake in its early days, Peaky Blinders brings the violence and intense drama to the screen in exciting ways. Much of the action is choreographed like a film would be, and the dialogue-heavy scenes between main characters have such a seamless transition. Sometimes the show looks as good as a top-notch Hollywood production.

The series has found much success with American audiences with its gritty storytelling and interesting guest appearances. The show has seen the likes of Tom Hardy, Sam Neill, Aidan Gillen, and recently Adrien Brody. The fourth series aired nearly two years ago and fans eagerly await its fifth season. While creators of the show insist that the story will take at least two more series to tell the complete tale.
