13. Tidelands

A fantasy series centered around a small fishing village with supernatural beings called Tidelanders set in Australia.

After ex-con Calliope McTeer returns home, a body washes ashore and she must investigate these half-human, half-siren Tidelanders. The secrets of the town and its mysterious inhabitants are uncovered through a story of sex, violence, and fantastical creatures.

Netflix has a certain addiction to “bad” TV. This isn’t to say this show or any other mentioned is bad, but they definitely have the qualities of one. Tidelands is certainly meant for binge-watching purposes and for its viewers to not get off the couch. It would seem these shows are meant to glue their viewers into stasis in order for them to eventually get connected to the show somehow.

Since it’s a complete unknown how Netflix tracks their data or even how many people are actually watching shows, it’s safe to assume they want the majority of viewers to complete an entire season. Tidelands is a perfect show that will engage viewers long enough to accumulate the data and create more content for those typical viewers. Especially for fans of the supernatural shows like, well Supernatural, these types of shows draw audiences in and lead them into other recommendations.
