20. The Rain

Although most would think foreign language shows are hard to watch or maybe hard to concentrate on, the shows on Netflix are interesting enough to read subtitles. Again, most of these titles are have the option of English voice over, but it seems like a betrayal to the world of television or cinema to do so. Regardless, the voice acting just doesn’t hit the same cues as the native language does when the physical matches up with the vocal.

The Rain tells the story of a post-apocalyptic world where the literal rain carries a virus that wipes out almost all of the population of Scandinavia. Two siblings are forced into a bunker by their parents and left alone. Six years later they are forced out by a group of survivors and they join up with the group. They trek across the wasteland and learn about the secrets kept by their father and his whereabouts as he had survived the initial incident.

The show has a slight replication of AMC’s The Walking Dead with how humanity deals with the new world. Factions are created, broken, and re-forged while the group moves across the land. Added with the attempt to cure or weaponize the virus and the repercussions of one of the main characters being the key to these experiments.
