Netflix is full of great shows and original programming found in the United States, but there are many more great Netflix shows to check out from all over the globe.

There are a ton of great Netflix original shows set in the United States, like Stranger Things, Orange is the New Black and more. Over the years, Netflix has been a leader in producing great content outside of the US. We shared our picks of the 30 best Netflix shows set outside the US.

Streaming services have made BBC shows accessible and also created the opportunity for more shows created in Europe to have a home. Additionally, plenty of other countries in Europe and continents have an avenue to display the talent of their homelands.

Numerous shows like SherlockDoctor Who, or The Office (UK) found audiences in the US and North America through services like Netflix and similar platforms. These fandoms enabled more shows like those to be featured on those services, thus creating a demand for quality global content.

Viewers most likely aren’t going to aim for specific content from specific countries, but the appeal is there. Fans of BBC shows are going to tune into more British shows and similarly for other countries. It’s also exciting for people to discover movies or shows on streaming services so they can recommend it to their friends and family. It gives people a nice feeling to turn others onto good content that they may enjoy. However, the averse is recommending a dud and having to be the “bad movie enjoyer”.

Regardless of the personal interactions, everyone has on television or movies, there are countless times when people are scrolling endlessly on Netflix. Instead of re-watching The Office another time, broaden some horizons and watch non-US shows.
