Dinosaurs will take over Netflix with Jurassic World: Camp Cretaceous, an animated action-adventure series set to debut globally in 2020.

There’s a new Jurassic World series in the works at Netflix! The streaming network just announced Jurassic World: Camp Cretaceous is coming soon.

Fans of the Jurassic Park franchise have good reason to celebrate as DreamWorks confirmed that the series is set to hit Netflix sometime in 2020.

Here is the synopsis of the series, via DreamWorks:

"Jurassic World: Camp Cretaceous follows a group of six teenagers chosen for a once-in-a-lifetime experience at a new adventure camp on the opposite side of Isla Nublar. But when dinosaurs wreak havoc across the island, the campers are stranded. Unable to reach the outside world, they’ll need to go from strangers to friends to family if they’re going to survive."

I imagine that any one of us would jump at a chance to be on that island, despite the obvious dangers.

The dinosaurs do what they do best and create chaos and confusion as they wreck the other side of the Island. The teens end up stranded and must band together to survive and escape the dangers they face, according to the release.

Check out the teaser for the series below.

Steven Spielberg is on board to executive produce, along with showrunners Scott Kreamer (Pinky Malinky) and Lane Lueras (Kung Fu Panda: The Paws of Destiny). The series is based on the 2015 film Jurassic World and with the announced producers, we can expect to see some memorable animation of the world and story.

As we get closer to the release date, we’ll learn a lot more about the series, including who is in the voice cast and get a better understanding of the story. There’s a lot to like about this series. Unfortunately, we have to wait until next year to see the first season of what’s, hopefully, a great new animated series.

Netflix has been pushing to program more original family-oriented content. Their partner Dreamworks has already given us 18 original series,  including some of my favorites, like Guillermo del Toro’s Tales of Arcadia trilogy and She-Ra and the Princesses of Power, just to name 2 of them.

If you want to watch the film Jurassic World on Netflix while you wait for the new series, you’ll have to wait until at least 2022, check out why here.
