Revivals and reboots are happening everywhere right now. Whether it be streaming platforms or network TV, everyone is at it. Luckily, Tales of the City is a revival many fans have wanted for years and are certainly pleased to see.

Set to be released on June 7, Armistead Maupin’s Tales of the City was originally released way back in the 90s and was a huge success. The original series was based on the book series of the same name, and it debuted in 1993. The series followed the lives of a group of residents who live in San Francisco. Two more seasons followed; one in 1998, and the other in 2001. So, this revival on Netflix will make it season 4.

Original stars of the 1993 series, Laura Linney and Olympia Dukakis, are set to return in the revival. There will also be plenty of new faces appearing on-screen as well in season 4, giving Tales of the City a more modern view of the LGBT community, according to reports.

Some of the new faces coming into Tales of the City are Ellen Page, who recently appeared in the highly successful Netflix original The Umbrella Academy, Zosia Mamet, who had a long and successful run in the series Girls, and High Maintenance’s May Hong.

Netflix has given us an idea about what to expect with the revival. It will be set with Mary Ann returning to her home in San Francisco. From there she will be reunited with her daughter Shawna, played by Ellen Page, and her ex-husband, according to Netflix.

It’s been two decades since she left them. So, expect tensions to be high, relationships to be strained and emotions to be high.
