The Family Guy Season 17 Finale centered around the renaming of James Woods High as Adam West High in honor of the beloved actor, though fans seem to have forgotten about another episode entitled”Peter’s Got Woods”.

The season seventeen finale of Family Guy did an excellent job paying tribute to Adam West by renaming Quahog’s high school in his honor but fans failed to see that Seth McFarlane and the show’s writing staff recycled an old episode’s plot to do so.

In “Adam West High”, Brian Griffin leads the charge as the first to propose that the local high school be renamed after the recently-deceased Adam West. Mostly everyone in town agrees to the proposal but that’s not the important bit.

What fans should be looking at is the fact that they’ve already renamed the high school before. In Season 4, Episode 11 “Peter’s Got Woods”, Brian makes a similar proposal. He suggests that the Quahog high school be renamed after Martin Luther King Jr. instead of James Woods. Peter objects and then a heated argument ensues, followed by Woods making an appearance himself.

It may not seem like a big deal since Family Guy’s writing staff have used old premises before but the fact that no one batted an eye at this striking similarity between episodes is surprising. Normally, when television shows rehash past storylines, they get called out on just about every social media platform — but in Family Guy’s case — the show seems to have dodged a bullet.

The reason as to why may come down to any number of factors, including the notable memorial to Adam West, but more than likely it was just because fans didn’t care. Family Guy’s writers have never put too much emphasis on being consistent with the storylines so it doesn’t surprise us that no one said anything about the writers clearly repackaging a prior episode’s premise.

Hopefully, McFarlane and his writing staff make a note of this particular episode so they don’t forget they’ve renamed Quahog High already — because the next time they try to rechristen Quahog High, longtime fans of Adam West are definitely going to have something to say.
