Is there anything George Clooney can’t do? From television to movies, acting to directing, business efforts to humanitarian work, he’s a movie star with an overflowing résumé of incredible work. Although he’s taken a step back from the spotlight recently, he was last seen in Hulu’s Catch-22 miniseries, but he’s coming to Netflix this June with one of his biggest movies of all time. Good Night, and Good Luck, Clooney’s second directorial effort, is one of the month’s best new releases.

Based on a true story, Good Night, and Good Luck follows the conflict between United States Senator Joseph McCarthy of Wisconsin and CBS News television and radio journalist Edward R. Murrow (David Strathairn). Murrow actively pursues to pull back the atrocity of McCarthy’s investigation into communism within the country. The CBS News team executes their intention to expose the senator’s lies even though their corporate sponsors insist they stop. The film tackles the theme of media responsibility on government and the effect their dissent can hold.

Upon release, Good Night, and Good Night scored positive reception from critics, as reflected in its 93% rating on Rotten Tomatoes. The limited release film was also a modest box office hit, bringing in a worldwide gross of $56.5 million against a $7 million production budget. Good Night, and Good Luck had good luck at the Academy Awards, where it was nominated for Best Picture, Best Director, Best Actor, Best Original Screenplay, Best Cinematography, and Best Art Direction. Obviously, this is one acclaimed throwback you want to check out at the top of June.
