Most of the world might be getting into the summer movie spirit, but who says you can’t also get into the Christmas spirit in the summer? In addition to the great collection of popcorn movies coming for your watch list this June, there’s also something a little nostalgic holiday classic arriving to put a little magic in the mix. Dr. Seuss’ The Grinch, the latest animated remake of the iconic story, finally hits Netflix for all the kids and kids-at-heart to have Christmas in June.

Based on How the Grinch Stole Christmas! by Dr. Seuss, The Grinch follows the titular mean and green creature as he takes out his bitterness and bad attitude on the unsuspecting town of Whoville during Christmastime. In a twisted revenge plot, the Grinch (voiced by Benedict Cumberbatch) decides to ruin the holiday for Whoville by stealing all of their presents and decorations. However, it takes the kindness and persistence of Cindy Lou Who (voiced by Cameron Seely) to help the Grinch realize what he has done is wrong.

Dr. Seuss’ The Grinch received mixed reception upon release, holding a middling 58% rating on Rotten Tomatoes. Still, the filmed managed to woo audiences, bringing in a worldwide gross of over $511 million against its $75 million production budget. Those kinds of numbers would have warranted a sequel, which would be a first since the Grinch’s story has never been extended past the initial tale. But given that many of Illumination’s titles, like Despicable Me and The Secret Life of Pets, have resulted in franchises, expect more Grinch. But first, catch the new hit on Netflix on June 5!
