Is Riverdale season 4 going to be the final season?

I don’t see how Riverdale season 4 could be the final season of the show. This series is at an all-time high in terms of popularity, and I don’t think Warner Bros. TV and The CW will want this show to end so soon. There’s so much more to cover, but how will they choose to do it?

Depending on how season 4 ends, the show could go in a variety of directions. Some of our favorite characters will pack up and leave Riverdale for college or other ventures, like Josie, while others stay behind.

If Betty, Veronica, Jughead and Archie split up and go their separate ways, as Betty suggests, how will the show continue? I wouldn’t be opposed to seeing these characters on their own, but that’s not really Riverdale, you know? That’s a different show, and I don’t know how that would work.

Showrunner Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa had some interesting things to say to The Hollywood Reporter after the season 3 finale. Here’s what he said about Riverdale season 4 and what it will be about, via THR:

"“I would say that we’re really, really leaning into the fact that this is the last year this group of friends, this group of people, might be together. That’s the underlying theme, and it’s also kind of what senior year is always about. It’s a huge step to go from high school to college, you say goodbye to your high school friends, you become more of a young adult, and I think that’s what season four’s really gonna be about.”"

Will this be the last time they are all together? I don’t think so. Riverdale should be renewed for season 5, but the show might be very different by then. Only time will tell!

I think Betty’s pact that she makes with Veronica and Archie is what season 5 will explore if there is a season 5. How? I don’t know, but that seems like the most likely scenario.
