On the latest episode of One-Punch Man, the overpowered martial artist Suiryu was beaten to a bloody pulp by Goketsu. He seemed to possess overwhelming strength and speed during the Martial Arts Tournament but was completely outmatched by the behemoth of a monster. Will he join their ranks to gain similar abilities?

For the most part, season two of One-Punch Man has been leading with the Monster Association making their presence known. The syndicate run by Orochi has been working behind the scenes but are now attacking cities in droves. And one of their newest plays is to transform average humans into terrifying monsters.

Warning! Spoilers for the latest episodes of One-Punch Man follow. Read on at your own discretion.

In “The Resistance of the Strong”, several of the competitors who fought alongside Saitama and Suiryu during the Martial Arts Tournament consume the Monster Cells gifted to them by Goketsu. Not everyone takes one but enough do that there was a mass of infighting between the martial artists. Suiryu, specifically, refused to take one because he didn’t want to mutate into a hideous monster.

The Monster Cells alter the appearance of anyone who consumes one so Suiryu’s reasoning for objecting is sound. He likely has a more profound reason for refusing but he’s not wrong about the side effects of such a transformative device.

In any case, Suiryu is much likelier to reconsider now that he’s been beaten within an inch of his life — Bakuzan saw to that. Saitama arrived just in time to save Suiryu but his feelings are bound to have changed since suffering such a humiliating defeat.

Because of that, it’s very likely Suiryu will embrace the Monster Cells previously presented to him. He’ll have to convince Goketsu or another recruiter of his worthiness but Suiryu is the type of fighter they won’t pass on given the opportunity. He’s already a formidable enough opponent and they know the kind of asset he can be as a monster. That being said, Suiryu will probably give in to the temptation of power within the next few episodes, if not in next week’s episode entitled “The Ultimate Dilemma”.
