Netflix, the Great Savior of Canceled Shows, strikes again! After earning and owning a reputation for swooping in to save beloved and prematurely canceled small-screen series, the streaming giant kept true to form when ABC canceled Designated Survivor after two seasons. Look, it’s no surprise Netflix opted to save a well-received but low-rated political drama, given last year’s conclusion of its debut smash-hit House of Cards. This month, the series finally makes its big comeback.

Kiefer Sutherland stars as Thomas Kirkman, the United States Secretary of Housing and Urban Development. When an explosion at the Capitol Building takes the lives of everyone but Tom, who had been selected as the designated survivor, he’s at once sworn in as president. In the third season of Designated Survivor, President Kirkman confronts the reality of campaigning and the possibility that his administration could run for another term. Surely, the season will touch on some parallels to current events and continue to deliver the same thriller elements fans adored.

Designated Survivor premiered in September 2016 on ABC, where it aired for 43 episodes. Initially, the drama was among one of the buzziest new series, but for whatever reason, the luster wore off and ABC chose to cut it loose. To its fans’ delight, Netflix saved the series and order 10 more episodes for a third season. Before pressing play on those episodes when they premiered on June 7, be sure to catch up with the first two seasons. You don’t want to miss what could become one of Netflix’s next big hit series.
