Something that has been quite hit or miss on Netflix is original multi-cam sitcoms. The traditional take on a comedy series hasn’t always proven successful on the platform, though there are a couple of exceptions like Fuller House and Alexa & Katie. The streamer gives the classic comedy model another shot this summer with Mr. Iglesias, a multi-cam from comedian Gabriel Iglesias, who has two Netflix specials streaming right now.

Mr. Iglesias stars the titular lead as a fictionalized version of himself who is a public high school teacher working at his alma mater. He takes on the task of teaching gifted kids who happen to be the school misfits, which will help them from being “counseled out” by their tough-as-nails bureaucratic assistant principal. Naturally, it’s assumed that Mr. Iglesias will form a bond with his students even though they might be tough to reach in spite of their smarts.

Gabriel Iglesias’ sitcom follows two Netflix specials, I’m Sorry For What I Said When I Was Hungry and One Show Fits All, which have been key players in boosting comedy’s profile on the platform. The series also stars comedy favorite Sherri Shepherd, which is all but assured that this series will be uproariously funny. The first season of Mr. Iglesias will consist of 10 half-hour episodes, making for a pleasantly quick binge-watch. Be sure not to miss the latest original comedy series when it debuts at the end of the month!
