Despite being canceled, Whiskey Cavalier wrapped up its season/series finale with a shocking cliffhanger. Is this really the end?

Contrary to prior reports, it appears as if ABC intends to un-cancel Whiskey Cavalier. The spy-drama led by Lauren Cohan and Scott Foley was canceled a few weeks, sparking a huge outcry from fans of the series on social media. Following that, it didn’t take long for the topic to begin trending on Twitter. And now, ABC is reconsidering their decision to ax the series.

According to a recent report from TVLine, the network is apparently eyeing a potential return for Whiskey Cavalier. Nothing is set in stone but odds are that the ABC will give the spy drama another shot. The question is: Will a second season air on a different network — or possibly — on a streaming service?

Theories aside, the Season One finale ended on a cliffhanger that suggested a continuation was in the works. David Hemingson and the show’s writers obviously wrote/shot the finale before news of them being canceled was announced, but that doesn’t change the fact that a follow-up was worked into the plot.

In the finale’s concluding moments, Standish (Tyler James Williams) is walking down a lonely street. He’s leaving a voicemail for Will which explains that Tina Marek (Marika Dominczyk) was the assassin who murdered Emma (Ophelia Lovibond) in cold blood. Standish is finishing up his message when Ollerman (Dylan Walsh) pops out from behind a car. He stabs Standish in the chest, pulling him to the side shortly after. The episode then ends with two major questions left unanswered.

The first and most important of these two is obvious: Has Standish been murdered? The wound inflicted on him appeared deadly and we know that Ollerman doesn’t fool around when it comes to taking lives. This probably means Standish is dead but there’s a chance Ollerman captured him instead. Then again, Ollerman likely intends to torture Standish to death so it might be a moot point now.

The other question we’re left asking is: How did Ollerman escape that fall? He supposedly leapt to his death so how is he still alive? What’s even more perplexing is how he predicted the night’s events would end with Will (Scott Foley) and Frankie (Lauren Cohan) tracking him down.

Unless we missed something, Ollerman set everything up so the Whiskey team would be blamed for a diplomat’s murder — and Tina was moments away from completing the mission when Standish stopped her. With that being known, there’s no way Ollerman could’ve predicted that they’d turn the tables on him — unless he planned on that scenario too. Is it possible he sacrificed Tina to evade capture?

In any case, there’s still a chance that these questions will be answered. There’s no guarantee at the moment but with ABC giving Whiskey Cavalier another lookover, it wouldn’t surprise us to learn that a second season is being developed.
