It’s never easy to say goodbye to a long-running television series, but it’s also not easy to say goodbye to one of the first Netflix original series that made the platform what it is today. After landing a three-season renewal in 2016, Orange Is the New Black will fade to black at the wrap of the seventh season, the final season of that order. The complete series without question ranks as one of the best long-commitment binge-watches you should add to your list.

Based on the book of the same name, Orange Is the New Black initially tells the story of Piper Chapman (Taylor Schilling) as she arrives at the Litchfield Penitentiary to serve her sentence for helping her ex-girlfriend Alex (Laura Prepon) transport a suitcase full of money in a drug smuggling scheme. The series grew into one of the best ensembles on television, delving into the backstories and various dramas of the characters serving time with Piper. It’s a challenging series with comedy flourishes, rich character studies, and inclusive representation.

Orange Is the New Black received critical acclaim right off the bat, leading to the series earning eight Emmy Award nominations and taking home one win for Uzo Aduba’s performance in 2015. The success of the series has made each annual season drop something of an event, and since it was one of the first series to master this release model, OITNB should be recognized as a pioneer. Following its upcoming seventh and final season, the series will wrap up for good, but all of the seasons will remain on Netflix for fans new and old to rediscover in a nice, long binge-watch.
