1. The Passage

When it was canceled: May 10, 2019

Number of seasons aired: 1

What it’s about: Based on the book trilogy by Justin CroninThe Passage tells the story of a virus that is released into the world. It turns people into blood-drinking creatures — but they’re not vampires because vampires don’t exist! — and a team of doctors works on creating a cure.

They think they’ve found a cure in a young girl, whose mother has died and she has no family who would miss her if something goes wrong. When Brad Wolgast is sent to collect the girl from her foster home, he realizes that he can’t possibly deliver the girl to this secret project and goes on the run with her.

Why it should be saved: There’s one main reason The Passage is at the top of my list. That ending made it clear that a second season was necessary. Plus, I think this show would have been so much better as a binge-watch instead of in weekly installments, so Netflix (or another streaming platform) is definitely the better place for it.

The Passage jumped from one storyline to another, following the book but not really thought about when it came to the weekly TV format. In the middle, it was slow. For a few episodes, I didn’t feel like we learned anything new or really saw any character development, meaning this show could have probably done with 10 episodes instead of the 13 it was given. Again, making it clear that Netflix would have been a better home.

There are two books left in the trilogy for the story. These two could be adapted into two more seasons, which would suit Netflix’s current plan (it seems) of having two or three seasons for a show and finishing.
