16. The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air

Make way for a cultural icon! The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air is loved by all who have watched it and needs to be remembered to keep the magic of classic American sitcoms.

If you ask me The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air premiered ahead of its time. The life lessons and struggles the comedy teaches need to be heard today more than ever. It was refreshing to see something so unique yet lighthearted on our screens, The Fresh Prince never relied on shock factor or crude humor, it was a family sitcom that taught everyone to work hard and love harder, without coming off as preachy.

This is the series that made Will Smith a household name and it still holds up as some of Smith’s best work. The Fresh Prince also starred James Avery, Janet Hubert-Whitten, Alfonso Ribeiro and others.

From the opening theme, The Fresh Prince was quick to capture our attention. The sitcom followed a teen from West Philadelphia (are you singing the theme in your head now?) as he moves in with his wealthy aunt and uncle in Bel Air after Will’s mother worries about his future due to a recent fight the teen was involved in.

After six seasons, there are 148 episodes to watch, but none on Netflix. Where can you find them? Unfortunately, it’s not Hulu this time. No streaming service currently has The Fresh Prince, so the wait to binge watch (unless you already own all the seasons) continues.
