Spoilers ahead for the Riverdale season 3 finale! Riverdale jumped forward to spring break of senior year and hinted that one of our favorite characters might be dead.

Riverdale brought everything full circle in the epic season 3 finale. It was one of the best and most exciting episodes of the series so far. While it tied up many of the season’s loose ends, it also hinted at the death of one of the show’s major characters.

After spending most of the season finale fighting for their lives against a deranged group of Gargoyles led by the show’s villain Penelope Blossom, we jump forward to the spring break of senior year for our heroes, Archie, Betty, Veronica and Jughead, in the season’s final scene.

In the scene, Archie, Betty and Veronica are standing around a bonfire covered in blood. From what we can gather, the trio has burned their clothes to hide the evidence. Betty is also talking about never talking about this night ever again, and it’s very similar to the Midnight Club’s pact they made about that night playing Gryphons and Gargoyles way back when.

Unfortunately, Jughead isn’t there, but his hat is, and Betty tosses it into the fire.

More from Riverdale

Clearly, the show wants viewers to wonder if Jughead is dead or alive. It’s not the first time this has happened, and it’s probably not the last.

There’s so much we don’t know about this scene that it’s impossible to make much sense of what’s happening. As usual, though, I’m sure our heroes will get in way too deep into something: Hiram’s business, the Farm, another investigation gone awry? We don’t know.

According to a report from Decider, you don’t have to wait that long to find out what happens in this scene. Riverdale’s spring break episode should air around midseason, according to the report. The show always returns in the fall, so we’ll spend about half the season building to that scene.

Nothing is ever as it seems in Riverdale. After many opportunities and fake-outs with the main four characters in the series, why should we believe this is the time they’ll kill off one the show’s best characters? This show is all about keeping viewers off balance, and that’s what is happening here.

One storyline ends, and instead of ending the season in a nice, little bow, the show has to keep us thinking about and interested in the show for the summer and until it returns in the fall.

Riverdale season 3 is coming to Netflix next week. If you haven’t seen the full season, why are you reading this? If you have seen the season, you can binge-watch it on Netflix very soon!

There was a lot of talk recently that Riverdale could be leaving Netflix in the near future. Fortunately, that will not be the case. Even though Netflix’s deal with The CW expired and WarnerMedia is starting their own streaming service, Riverdale will likely be on Netflix for the next few years.
