Based on what we’ve seen so far, Into The Dark: They Come Knocking is gonna be a truly dark and thrilling tale. A trailer for the episode has yet to debut but images have already been released. Hulu unveiled a batch of new images today—photos that feature all three central stars and an unexpected guest.

Starring in this particular installment of Into The Dark are Clayne Crawford, Lia McHugh, and Josephine Langford. Robyn Lively will co-star as Valerie and Viktoria Dov as Beta. It’s being directed by Adam Mason, a returning director to the Into The Dark franchise.

As for the main cast’s roles, Crawford is playing a grieving father by the name of Nathan Singer. His daughters, Claire and Maggie, are portrayed by Langford and McHugh respectively. They’ll all take part in the road trip their father has planned but do so at his urging.

In regard to the images, most of them depict the Singers having a good time. One, in particular, shows them sitting in a diner, enjoying milkshakes together. This instance of happiness seems like a sign of them having a pleasant drive but that’s the farthest thing from the truth.

In actuality, that image is just a precursor to the horrors that Nathan and his family will have to overcome. Oh yes, if it wasn’t already apparent, this installment of Into The Dark will incorporate science-fiction elements into its’ plot. The first few episodes remained in the real world but the sci-fi factor was turned up to ten in All That We Destroy, last month’s entry.

The demons/antagonists in They Come Knocking, however, haven’t been shown quite yet. They can be heard banging on the Singer’s door in the teaser trailer, though a clear shot at the perpetrator(s) isn’t shown. And while their identities remain a mystery, one of the released images depicts a woman standing in a cave—a woman who could wind up being the main antagonist.

Valerie (Robyn Lively), the woman in question, is standing by herself while a single flashlight is raised in her direction. This would normally cause us to ask who’s holding the light but another screenshot confirms that Nathan is the one looking at her. There’s no description or info on who Lively’s character is, though our guess is she’s portraying an apparition of Nathan’s dead wife.

As we mentioned before, since this episode of Into The Dark is incorporating supernatural elements, the possibility of Nathan’s wife appearing as an apparition is believable. The synopsis also indicates that she died of cancer so that means any physical manifestation could be a trick. I mean, if the dark entities stalking Nathan’s family are able to extract memories—or read a person’s mind—these creatures will likely use familiar memories to lure Nathan, Claire, and Maggie to their deaths.

Whatever these creatures have planned, fans should be prepared to see Nathan die at some point. They Come Knocking is a Father’s Day-themed episode after all and it would be fitting that Clayne Crawford portray the ideal father—one who does everything in his ability to protect his children, including self-sacrifice.
