Netflix should renew The Society for season 2

The Society on Netflix is an intriguing look at how teens could react when fending for themselves. Here’s why Netflix needs to renew it for a second season.

The Society season 2 is necessary. There’s no doubt about it. Those who have binged it all the way to the end will have some major questions and only a second season can answer them. Here’s why Netflix needs to renew The Society for season 2.

I’ll try to keep as many major spoilers out of this post for those who haven’t quite got to the end of the season. However, I will say that the ending is left open, allowing for a second season to quickly pick up with events and offer us some more answers. It’s this open-ended element that leaves us needing more.

There is plenty of material for a second season. Up to this point, only one big question has really been answered. The teens now know what happened to them — and that shouldn’t too much of a surprised even to those who are only just starting to watch. The biggest question for all was how they ended up in their town surrounded by dense forest without their parents, younger siblings, and others who weren’t on the field trip.

While they have one answer, that one answer has opened up many other questions. The big one for The Society season 2 will be about how they can get back to their own world. I’d also be intrigued at what’s going on in the real universe. Do the parents know their children are missing or are alternate versions of their children in this world?

Show creator Christopher Keyser told Digital Spy that The Society was only picked up for one season, which is normal. The odd show, like Chilling Adventures of Sabrina, will immediately be picked up for longer. Sabrina was picked up for 20 episodes immediately, which was originally going to be two seasons and was then combined and released as two parts of the first season.

Keyser went on to say that it is now up to the audience. If the viewership has been good, Netflix will renew The Society for season 2. Considering the buzz, I don’t think a cancellation is anything to worry about this time. There will be a bigger worry when it comes to the end of the second season considering the way Netflix keeps canceling shows.
