15. Like Father

Like Father takes the complicated relationship between fathers and daughters to a whole other level. The film starts with Rachel being left at the altar, only to have her dad show up who she hasn’t seen in years. They end up getting drunk together and going on the Caribbean cruise that was supposed to be Rachel’s honeymoon. Yeah, it’s complicated.

Over the course of the trip, Rachel tries to give off the impression that she is fine. Fine with her life, fine with being left at her wedding, and fine with whatever her relationship is with her father. But her dad will not let her pretend.

He tries his best to bond with her and get her to talk to him about what happened. This all occurs over the course of their time on the cruise ship and going on adventures at different destinations. Slowly, Rachel and her father bond for the first time in her life.

Like Father stars Kristen Bell, Kelsey Grammer, Seth Rogen, Paul W. Downs, Zach Appelman, Leonard Ouzts, Blaire Brooks, Anthony Laciura, Mary Looram, and Kimiko Glenn.

But while that makes for an interesting and funny movie, it doesn’t make for a rom-com. That’s where Seth Rogen comes in. Rachel meets his character, Jeff, a recently divorced man, on the cruise and after telling him all her problems (which he accepts surprisingly well), they begin sleeping together and ultimately start a relationship.

Like Father is one of Netflix’s most-watched original movies with 10 million streams immediately after its release. Not bad for a rom-com about father-daughter relationships. If you haven’t seen it, it definitely needs to be your next movie to watch!
