16. Love Per Square Foot

Whether it’s books, TV shows, or films, the marriage of convenience is a trope that has been used again and again and for one good reason: people love it. Especially when the couple ultimately fall for each other in the end. That’s the premise of Love Per Square Foot. Sanjay and Karina don’t earn enough to buy a home, so they marry so they can afford one together.

Love Per Square Foot stars Vicky Kaushal, Angira Dhar, Alankrita Sahai, Raghuvir Yadav, Ratna Pathak Shah, Supriya Pathak, and Brijendra Kala.

The film follows Sanjay, a software engineer at bank who is hoping to get a home loan to buy a house, and Kareena, who also wants to buy a house but who is arranged to marry a man named Samuel. Samuel does not have similar aspirations as he already has a home.

But one day, Sanjay and Kareena meet in the building they both work at. It turns out she works at the bank and she is the one to deny Sanjay his home loan. They argue but soon find they have a  shared interest in buying a home. Sanjay brings up the marriage scheme and they decide to go through with it.

*Possible spoilers below*

As they go through the scheme, they slowly begin to fall for one another. Kareena breaks up with Samuel, but Sanjay ends up sleeping with his boss, Rashi, when he goes to her for the check he needs for the home loan. When he wakes up, he doesn’t remember much but he has the check he needs.

While he doesn’t initially tell Kareena, she finds out and is furious. The problem is only exacerbated when Rashi calls and tells Sanjay she’s pregnant. Karina overhears the conversation. Rashi’s husband also shows up and punches Sanjay, leading to Rashi confessing that nothing actually happened between her and Sanjay. She just wanted to make her husband jealous. Kareena runs from the room.

Will Sanjay and Kareena get back together? This is a rom-com, so of course. After several arguments, Sanjay and Kareen do get married. They end up getting the house of their dreams and living together.
