3. The Incredible Jessica James

Jessica Williams has been famous from her days on The Daily Show but in 2017, she partnered with Netflix to star in her first feature film, The Incredible Jessica James. Williams plays Jessica (oddly enough), an aspiring playwright who has just been dumped and is trying to bounce back from the heartache.

Besides Williams, the film stars Chris O’Dowd, LaKeith Stanfield, Noel Wells, Taliyah Whitaker, and Susan Heyward.

Possible spoilers ahead!

To deal with her recent split, Jessica goes on a series of awful dates, trying to find someone to rebound with so she can quickly get over her ex. During this journey, her best friend, Tasha sets her up on a blind date with a man named Boone. The date doesn’t start off great, but once they begin talking about their exes, they bond and end up sleeping together.

As the film goes on, it shows Jessica working with children at a theater workshop. Unfortunately, her job does not keep away thoughts of her ex. But time with Boone does. They end up meeting again and confess they follow their exes on social media but decide that they should unfollow their exes and follow each others. So Boone follows Jessica’s ex and she follows his.

From there, they go on multiple dates and Jessica soon finds herself falling for Boone. Unfortunately, when she goes to tell him, she finds him with his ex-wife. Jessica gives up on romance and works with the kids on their theater.

The film ends with her reuniting with Boone but taking a job in London to perform one of her plays. It’s made clear though that Boone helped her get the flight, so they are at least friends by the end.
