6. Alex Strangelove

Not all the rom-coms on Netflix are strictly heterosexual (thank God)! There are more LGBT movies coming to the streaming service every day. One such film is Alex Strangelove.

Alex Truelove is a teenage boy who starts dating his best friend, Claire, when they find out her mother is being checked for cancer. They are happy together. But then Alex meets Eliot at a party and his feelings get complicated.

Eliot is openly gay, and when Alex begins to have feelings for him, he starts to question his sexuality. The film goes on to show how Alex deals with his relationship with Claire, his feelings for Eliot, and his questions about himself.

Alex Strangelove stars Daniel Doheny, Madeleine Weinstein, Antonio Marziale, Daniel Zolghadri, Nik Dodani, Fred Hechinger, and Sophie Q.

If you are looking for a cute teenage rom-com with a gay main character, Alex Strangelove is definitely a must watch. There aren’t many sweet, non-tragic LGBT films out there (maybe only Love, Simon) and even fewer on Netflix.

Alex Strangelove is one of the happy films that explores sexuality. You won’t be left sobbing by the end. Or maybe you will because the film ends with real-life coming out videos which are utterly heartwarming.
