Grey’s Anatomy is here to stay–at least for two more seasons!

Grey’s Anatomy may go on forever at this point, given that season 15 is about to end and ABC just renewed it for two more seasons. This means we’ll be nearing the end of season 17 when ABC will have to decide the fate of the show once again. Holy crap, season 17?!

It’s impressive for a medical drama to have gone on as long as Grey’s Anatomy has and the fact that the network and fans still want more is even more so. While ABC canceled a fair chunk of their shows this week, it gave shows like Grey’s Anatomy absolutely nothing to worry about. Shondaland secured renewals for How to Get Away With Murder and Station 19 as well but lost For the People after just two seasons.

In addition to the show’s renewal, Entertainment Weekly announced that Ellen Pompeo is also signed on for both season 16 and season 17, despite alluding otherwise in an interview with EW earlier this year.

"I’m clearly not prepared right now to make any formal announcement about what my future is on the show, but I am really feeling like we have told the majority of the stories that we can tell. It’s about time that I mix it up. I’m definitely looking for a change."

Thank goodness this wasn’t the case! We need all the Meredith we can get in our lives. Plus is Grey’s Anatomy really Grey’s Anatomy without Meredith Grey?

Along with the renewal news, Deadline also reported that three cast members are being promoted to series regular roles–Chris Carmack (Link), Jake Borelli (Levi), and Greg Germann (Koracick). Words can’t express how excited I am for this because these three have really made the series worth watching again. They’ve only been on the show for a short period of time and yet it feels like they were from the beginning.
