Is Lucifer season 5 in the works at Netflix? Will Netflix renew the series for season 5 or cancel the show after the fourth season?

Lucifer season 4 has officially been on Netflix long enough for fans to finish binge-watching all 10 episodes. Of course, fans are already wondering if Netflix will renew Lucifer for season 5 or if the streaming network will cancel the Netflix original series.

Netflix has been canceling a lot of fan-favorite shows lately with One Day at a Time and Santa Clarita Diet being the most recent cancellations. Lucifer fans are probably a little worried their show might meet the same end.

Unfortunately, I can’t say Lucifer fans shouldn’t be worried. Netflix has canceled a lot of shows from outside studios, and since Netflix doesn’t own the full series, there’s a chance the streaming network could cancel this series.

The good news is that it’s a very small chance that the series will be canceled. I don’t want to get into spoilers for Lucifer season 4 yet, so we’ll just look at the bigger picture. Netflix saved Lucifer after Fox canceled the series in 2018. The streaming network has built up some fan credit and loyalty. I don’t think the streaming network will throw that all away after one season. That would be brutal!

With that, I think there’s a strong chance Lucifer is renewed for season 5 at Netflix. It would be a waste of investment to cancel this series after saving it and spent even more promoting the new season. At Netflix, it all comes down to numbers, for the most part, and if Lucifer hits those numbers, it will surely be back for season 5.

Netflix also bought the streaming rights for the first three seasons of the series, as well, so the full series is available when the fourth season premiered. That’s likely a pretty sizable cost to the streaming network, as well. It seems like that cost is too big for Netflix to turn back now.

On top of all of that, season 4 definitely opens the door for the fifth season. That’s a really good sign for the show moving forward.

Of course, only Netflix knows if the series is coming back for season 5. Looking at the big picture, Lucifer season 5 should be announced in the near future after Netflix gathers the viewership data. It just seems like the most likely course of action of the network.

Netflix usually waits about one month to announce a renewal, so we should learn if season 5 is in the works in June. Stay tuned for more news about the series!
