In an interview on The Howard Stern show, Charlize Theron was asked about Mindhunter and casually gave a release date for season 2. Is it legit?

Mindhunter season 2 is coming to Netflix in August 2019, according to Charlize Theron. Digital Spy first reported the news after Theron shared the release date on The Howard Stern Show.

Back in October of 2017, we were introduced to FBI agents, Holden Ford and Bill Tench, for the first time in the Netflix original series Mindhunter.

They brought along with them a myriad of the worst serial killers in U.S. history and fans were instantly hooked. Mindhunter based on the real life story of the creation of the FBI’s criminal profiling program. The show features interviews and investigations of some of the most disturbing crimes to occur in the U.S. and shows how being immersed in that world affects the detectives and their families.

The show was quickly renewed for a second season in November 2017, but since then we have been patiently waiting for a date announcement from Netflix. It may seem random to get this information from Theron unless you know that she is an executive producer on the show. This, combined with the matter-of-fact delivery of the statement, and the fact that they hadn’t even asked her for the date makes it feel like this was a legitimate accidental leak.

In the interview, Stern points out that he didn’t know that she was an EP on the show and begins to talk about how great the show is. Charlize responds with, via Digital Spy:

"“Thank you. Season two is coming out in August, so… Can’t wait.”"

Clearly, she can’t wait. Netflix was contacted by Digital Spy for comment, but they would not confirm the release date yet.

It’s highly possible that the August date has been discussed, and also that they have confirmed it behind the scenes, but Netflix likes to announce their shows closer to the release so we’ll have to wait to see.

What we do know for sure is that the second season is going to be set two years after the events of season 1 in the time frame between 1979 and 1981, according to the report. The investigators will be following the terrible Atlanta Child Murders from that period which was a difficult case given the total, and the age range, of the victims. It became a huge issue personally for the agent that Holden Ford is based on. Given how the first season of Mindhunter ended we know his mental state is already fragile so this season looks to be an intense one.

Mindhunter season 1 is currently on Netflix, and we’ll have to wait for confirmation on the season 2 release date.

Next. All the Netflix shows canceled or renewed in 2019. dark
