If you’ve read the title of this movie and you already have “Always Be My Baby” by Mariah Carey stuck in your head, that’s a good sign. If you watch the movie’s trailer, you will definitely have the song stuck in your head well until after Always Be My Maybe premieres. The latest Netflix romantic comedy comes from two of comedy’s leading talents, coming together for an early summer treat of laugh and romance.

Always Be My Maybe centers on childhood friends Sasha (Ali Wong) and Marcus (Randall Park), who grew up together but have a falling out and don’t communicate with each other for 15 years. Sash works as a celebrity chef in Los Angeles, and Marcus plays music and lives with his father in San Francisco. When Sasha opens a new restaurant in San Francisco, she runs into Marcus and soon moves past the reluctance to reconnect to discover some sparks flying between them.

Always Be My Maybe is the directorial debut from Nahnatchka Khan, who created the short-lived series Don’t Trust the B—- in Apartment 23, produces Fresh Off the Boat, and has written for Malcolm in the Middle and American Dad! The film was written by Wong, Park, and Michael Golamco, which always makes for a funnier film when the talented stars are able to express your full vision. You will definitely want to end your month on a high note by watching Always Be My Maybe the second it premieres on May 31.
