As promised, Netflix brings a number of nostalgic favorites to its ranks this May, and what throwback is as nostalgic as Dumb and Dumber? For those that came of age and/or grew up in the ’90s, there are multiple popular films that shaped the pop culture of our lives. Like it or not, Dumb and Dumber was one of those movies that was ubiquitous through continuous quoting and referencing. It’s a true cult classic, and it’s one of the Netflix’s best new releases.

Jim Carrey and Jeff Daniels star in Dumb and Dumber Lloyd Christmas and Harry Dunne, two not-so-sharp best friends and roommates who happen upon a mysterious adventure. When Lloyd’s crush Mary Swanson (Lauren Holly) leaves behind a briefcase full of money in his car while on the way to the airport, Lloyd and Harry embark on a trip to Aspen to return her lost money, but they aren’t aware the cash is connected to a kidnapping. Of course, the two are tracked by cops and killers as their smarts and friendship are tested at every turn.

Dumb and Dumber comes from the Farrelly Brothers, as Peter directed and Bobby wrote the screenplay. The pair also created such films as There’s Something About Mary, Me, Myself & Irene, Stuck on You, and Fever Pitch. The film received positive reception from critics and holds a 67% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, as well an impressive box office run with a $247.3 million gross. Dumb and Dumber spawned a 2003 prequel and a 2014 sequel starring the original leading duo. But you can catch the original classic when it comes to Netflix on the first of the month.
