Canceled: Travelers

Number of seasons: 3

What it’s about: Technology has changed hundreds of years in the future. The last humans have figured out a way of time traveling to the past. They sent their subconscious minds to people in the 21st century, taking over the people who have recently died.

As they attempt to keep themselves alive, the “travelers” work on protecting the Earth from the future that is in store. They have an archive of social media profiles and their basic knowledge of history. With that, they need to find a way to stop the terrible future that will end humanity. At the same time, they need to live the lives of the people they’ve taken over.

Why it was canceled: Travelers had a lot of pressure on it for the third season. The Canadian network, Showcase, had already canceled the show and left it to Netflix to finance everything for the third season. It was clear that the cable network didn’t have much faith in the third season.

Unfortunately, Travelers season 3 didn’t get the viewers that Netflix wanted. Within days of the season becoming available, Netflix made the decision to cancel the series for good.

Reaction to the cancellation: While there are certainly many fans upset considering the way the third season was canceled, the fans haven’t been as vocal as many other shows out there. Maybe it doesn’t help that the third season was released relatively quietly. Fans may not have even realized that there was a third season until it was too late.

But it’s also possible that there simply isn’t the fanbase out there, justifying Netflix’s decision to cancel the series. It’s sad for those who were invested, though. There are some campaigns to save Travelers but they’re not as loud as the likes of Shadowhunters and One Day at a Time.
