Canceled: Marvel’s The Punisher

Number of seasons: 2

What it’s about: Frank Castle is The Punisher, a man who heads out on a revenge mission to find the people responsible for the deaths of his wife and children. While he does that, he uncovers a conspiracy that runs deeper into the criminal underbelly of New York than anyone has ever thought before.

Frank mission becomes one of digging as deep as possible into the conspiracy. He goes on a quest for truth and justice. It’s more than just his family now, but all the innocent families of New York City.

Why it was canceled: Honestly, it’s not clear why The Punisher was canceled. While Netflix claims that it’s due to the amount of people watching, it’s clear that there’s something else going on. Every Marvel Netflix Original has been canceled now and it’s clear that it’s got something to do with the Disney+ streaming service and the Disney-FOX merger.

We’ll never get to find out the full truth unless someone behind the scenes is willing to be completely honest. However, something fishy is going on.

Reaction to the cancellation: For the most part, the reaction to this cancellation was just one of sadness. There wasn’t the same uproar that many other cancellations get and that’s simply because this news was expected.

By the time The Punisher was canceled, Netflix had canceled Iron FistLuke Cage, and Daredevil. The cancellation of The Punisher was expected. Fans were ready for it.

Of course, for the most part, the questions were about why the decision had been made to cancel. Sure, the viewership had dropped by about 40% according to Netflix’s figures based on the previous season but was that enough to justify the cancellation? Clearly, something was going on behind the scenes.
