One of the most exciting and exhilarating things about television these days is the heightened star power. Julia Roberts, Reese Witherspoon, Nicole Kidman, Naomi Watts, Amy Adams, you name it. All of your favorite movie stars are dropping by television for eight to 10-episode limited series, and it’s making TV better than its ever been. This May, the erstwhile Bridget Jones joins the pack of top talent anchoring limited series as Renée Zellweger stars in Netflix’s anthology thriller What/If. It’s an addictive event series you’ll want to tune into, no ifs about it.

Zellweger stars as the mysterious Anne in What/If, a 10-episode neo-noir thriller that explores everything from morality to the domino effect of making decisions. The first season centers on a newlywed couple that struggles as they settle into their new roles and accepts a powerful woman’s (most likely Zellweger) offer of financial assistance that comes with an ethical consequence. Each season of the series, should it go on beyond its first, will focus on a different story of morality as good people start doing bad things that change their lives forever.

What/If comes from creator Mike Kelley, who was a writer and produced on The O.C. and created the series Swingtown and most notably Revenge. If you’ve been waiting for a return to Kelley’s brand of campy, soapy, frothy drama, What/If will definitely be the binge-watch for you. The anthology thriller also marks the first series-regular role and, really, first television role ever of Oscar winner Renée Zellweger. Don’t miss her high-profile return to the spotlight in could be one of the most talked about shows of May when it drops Memorial Day weekend.
