New on Netflix in May 2019: Riverdale, Arrow, Lucifer and more
By Bryce Olin
The list of new movies and shows on Netflix in May 2019, including Riverdale, Arrow, Lucifer, When They See Us, and more Netflix new releases.
After a so-so April for new movies and shows, May 2019 is going to be awesome! We saw Chilling Adventures of Sabrina and a few new movies in April, but May is much better. There are so many good new movies and shows coming to Netflix in May, starting with Lucifer season 4 on May 8.
This is the first new season of Lucifer since Fox canceled the series last spring. We still haven’t seen the trailer for Lucifer season 4 yet, but it’s coming soon.
The new season picks up right after Lucifer season 3 ended, and it will take this series in a new direction with the arrival Inbar Lavi is Eve. Tom Ellis returns as Lucifer Morningstar, along with Lauren German, D.B. Woodside, Lesley-Ann Brandt, Kevin Alejandro, Aimee Garcia and more.
Lucifer is far from the only big show of the month. We’re also getting a bunch of good Netflix originals, including Dead to Me (May 3) starring Christina Applegate and Linda Cardellini, Tuca & Bertie (May 3) with Ali Wong and Tiffany Haddish, What/If (May 24) starring Renee Zellweger, She’s Gotta Have It season 2 (May 24) starring DeWanda Wise, and Ava DuVerynay’s When They See Us (May 31) about the Central Park Five.
New seasons of almost all of The CW shows ending in May will also be released on Netflix in May, as well. We’ll see new seasons of Arrow, The Flash, Riverdale, Charmed, Supernatural, Supergirl and more. Netflix has not confirmed these shows and their new seasons are coming in May yet, but based on past release dates, we are pretty certain about the release dates for those shows on Netflix. Check below for the projected release dates for those shows.
Netflix also has some great new movies on the way in May. Kick off the month with the new documentary Knock Down The House about Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and three other candidates for political office around the United States.

Extremely Wicked, Shockingly Evil and Vile starring Zac Efron premieres on May 3. The film is a biopic about serial killer Ted Bundy. On the same day, Netflix releases The Last Summer, a new rom-com starring Riverdale’s K.J. Apa. It has the potential to be a huge movie, possibly the biggest of the month.
Wine Country starring Amy Poehler and Maya Rudolph is coming to Netflix on May 10. This will be the funniest Netflix original to hit the streaming service in a long time, and probably ever. Later in May, we get to see See You Yesterday on May 17, The Perfection on May 24, and Always Be My Maybe starring Randall Park and Ali Wong on May 31.
There will be more new shows and movies added to this list when Netflix announces the full list of new releases coming in May 2019. Stay tuned!
