A new conflict for Lucifer

For three seasons, Lucifer has been struggling with the fact that he thinks his father, God, is manipulating him and his fate – especially his fate with Chloe. It was an interesting idea and relatable because there are many people who struggle and ask the same questions Lucifer does when it comes to God’s role in their lives.

However, I think this storyline has become repetitive. We keep seeing the same sort of conflict where Lucifer rebels by cutting off his wings or trying to stay away from “The Detective.” And then failing and trying again with no real resolution. We’ve been watching the same struggle, just playing out in a different way each time for three seasons.

Lucifer’s struggle with his father is always going to be present in the storyline, but it would be refreshing if we got to see a new conflict pop up for Lucifer. Maybe this year he’ll struggle with trying not to lose Chloe, and we’ll get to see him show her that they can be together and that he’s still the same person (or devil, to be precise) she knows. Or it could be some other girl trouble with Eve paying him a visit, whether that be her getting in the way of Lucifer and Chloe or another problem.

There’s another new character we’re going to meet. Graham McTavish is playing a priest who supposedly knows who Lucifer actually is. Is this going to be good or bad for him? Perhaps the priest’s goal is to expose Lucifer. It would be interesting to compare that to the priest Lucifer connected with back in season 1. Whatever it may be, a new dilemma for Lucifer is what we really need to see.
