From author Joe Ballarini, A Babysitter’s Guide to Monster Hunting is being adapted into a family film for Netflix directed by Rachel Talalay

Netflix’s newest adaptation will be A Babysitter’s Guide to Monster Hunting, which is based on the children’s book series of the same name by Joe Ballarini, according to Deadline. The series now consists of three books and the upcoming film will be an adaptation of the first novel in the series.

The books follow a babysitter who doesn’t really like kids very much but must team up with other babysitters to do battle with the creatures of the night when a child she is sitting gets kidnapped by monsters.

The books are very tongue in cheek and can appeal to a range of child readers depending on maturity. Netflix will try to hit the same audience group with their adaptation which promises to be a family film that will probably look to capture the same fun, campy tone of the books.

The Netflix original movie adaptation will be directed by Rachel Talalay, who is most famous for directing the sixth Nightmare on Elm Street film Freddy’s Dead: The Final Nightmare. Other directing credits of Talalay’s include: Chilling Adventures of SabrinaRiverdaleSupergirl and The Flash. Interestingly enough, the film will be written by the book’s author Ballarini.

Walden Media and Montecito Pictures Company are producing the film alongside famous Canadian filmmaker Ivan Reitman and Amie Karp.

No word yet on who will star in the adaptation or when it will come out but Netflix has been pushing more kid-focused content with recently released content such as Carmen Sandiego and Mighty Little Bheem.

With talented people such as Talalay and Reitman attached to the film, excitement is certainly high and we will keep you posted on all news for the project as it rolls out. Stay tuned for more news about this film!

If it’s successful, we have to imagine it will get a few sequels.
