Will On My Block return for season 3, or will Netflix cancel the series? The future is looking good for On My Block.

Fans are anxiously awaiting news about On My Block season 3. Will Netflix cancel the series or renew the show for a new season?

So far, Netflix has not announced anything about the future of On My Block. That’s not necessarily surprising at this time. The show was just released on March 29, and at the time of publishing, it’s been a tad more than two weeks since the release date. As you probably know, Netflix often takes its time with these shows and their renewal announcements on Netflix.

Typically, we have to wait at least a month to find out if a show has been renewed and it can even be longer than that before we hear anything. We should be finding out about On My Block season 3 very soon.

On My Block has a couple of things going for it, though, when it comes to a season 3 renewal. First of all, the show has a passionate fanbase. Of the new teen shows at Netflix, On My Block is easily one of the best and most popular. We have to assume most people who watched the first season also watched the second season because of the cliffhanger ending.

More from On My Block

Well, if that’s the case, there’s a really good chance this show comes back for season 3. It’s too good not to come back, and the story definitely needs to continue.

Additionally, while I couldn’t confirm this, it appears On My Block is a Netflix production. It’s not like American Vandal or One Day at a Time; those shows were produced by CBS TV Studios and Sony Pictures Television, respectively. So, they are Netflix shows, but Netflix doesn’t own the property like they do with shows like Stranger Things or On My Block.

It seems like the shows that Netflix doesn’t own outright often get the ax sooner than the shows Netflix does control. Examples include the shows listed above along with the Marvel shows.

On the other side, there have been some troubling trends with Netflix lately. According to reports, Netflix is much more likely to give a season 2 renewal to a show that is a critical hit, and On My Block was. Unfortunately, that critic love only lasts for so long. Netflix is not renewing hit shows for season 3 just because the critics like it. They want fans to respond with more watches for season 2. In other words, they want to know the show has a growing audience.

In addition, we also learned that Netflix is not interested in keeping shows running for five-plus seasons. They like the shorter season counts now because people can follow along and catch up without feeling like they are too far behind. Of course, there are plenty of exceptions to this, but it’s something to keep in mind moving forward.

Verdict: For me, On My Block has to be renewed for season 3. It’s a great show, and I think it will continue to improve over time. It needs at least one more season to tie up its loose ends, and it probably deserves more.

Unless the show suffered a huge viewership hit in the second season, On My Block season 3 should get the green light at Netflix.
