Oregon: Portlandia

What other choice to represent the Beaver State was there than the great Portlandia??

This sketch series by comedians Fred Armisen and Carrie Brownstein is truly something excellent. As you might have guessed from the name, the show specifically skewers life in Portland, Oregon, where everything is still the “dream of the 90s.” Skits cover everything from Portland’s prominent hippie culture to its many super-niche shops to the uppity demands of the city’s health nuts. It’s always laugh-out-loud funny and always a little too accurate.

Honestly, even if you know nothing about Oregon or Portland this show is still worth watching. It was highly decorated by critics during its run from 2011 to 2018, scooping up major awards like Primetime Emmys and a Peabody.

Although this second series is nowhere near on par with the greatness that was Portlandia, honorable mention does have to go to the charming Netflix original series Everything Sucks! The show is set in the real life town of Boring, Oregon, where a group of teenagers struggles to make it through high school in the 90s. Although the show was recently canceled, it is worth noting that it did a very good job at giving a more balanced portrayal of what life is like in the Beaver State.
