Georgia: The Walking Dead

When you think of The Peach State, you might think of old school Southern living. You can picture etiquette classes, church ladies in big hats, and families with historic last names, right? If this is your perception of Georgia, maybe you should check out Dynasty, an Atlanta-set drama that is currently available to watch on Netflix. If you want to get into the down and dirty of what Georgia is really like, though, then this Georgia-born writer recommends you give The Walking Dead a go.

This gnarly AMC series depicts what life looks like after an uncontrollable zombie apocalypse. The living must band together and cultural decorum goes out the window in the name of survival.

While the show has since moved around to different locations, it was originally set in Georgia. The first few episodes featured a completely decimated Atlanta. After that, the focus shifted to life in the backwoods.

Sure, a zombie apocalypse means there are no more Southern trademarks like Coca-Cola, the Braves or Chik-fil-A. Instead, we get to see Georgia’s brutal nature on full display. We’re talking thick humidity, dense, wild foliage and unforgiving thunderstorms. The Walking Dead isn’t exactly going to make you want to plan a trip to The Peach State, but it will sure keep you entertained.
