Kansas: Switched at Birth

There was certainly some competition for which show on Netflix it is that best represents The Sunflower State. The top two contenders were the Freeform drama Switched at Birth and the cult classic Jericho. Both had very different perspectives on Kansas, with Switched at Birth aiming more for realism while Jericho (arguably the better-done series) opted for a post-apocalyptic take.

In the end, it was Switched at Birth that narrowly edged out the competition, thanks to its very accurate portrayal of Kansas.

If you’ve never seen the show (it ran from 2011 to 2017), you’re in for a family drama treat. Set in the Kansas City metropolitan area, Switched at Birth follows the lives of two biologically unrelated but still connected teens. As the name of the show would imply, Bay Kennish and Daphne Vasquez were accidentally switched as babies after a hospital mixup.

Now, their lives couldn’t be more different from one other: Bay lived the easy life with an affluent family while Daphne became deaf at a young age and lived with her single mother and grandmother. The show focuses on how the two teens come together to make things work. Switched at Birth is a fun watch, full of dramatic ups and downs.
