Maryland: The Keepers

There might be no better way to really see the good and bad of a state than by exploring it via documentary. And as true crime seems to be the hot genre on Netflix right now, it seems only fitting that a great docuseries like The Keepers represent The Old Line State.

If you’re unfamiliar with this riveting series, here’s the lowdown. The Keepers takes viewers back to 1960s Baltimore, Maryland, where a nun was found brutally killed. Although Sister Cathy Cesnik’s murder remains unsolved today, The Keepers uses its seven episodes to explore a story of sexual abuse and cover-up at the Catholic high school where she taught.

Trust me, this Netflix original is going to suck you in right away. When it was released, it immediately received critical praise. Some have even compared it to Making a Murderer, another massive hit for the streaming service. If you have a few hours of the weekend, The Keepers is an easy binge that will definitely prove worth your while. It may not show the absolute best of Maryland, but it’s certainly an in-depth exploration of one of the state’s most dark and interesting historical tidbits. Give it a try this weekend!
