North Carolina: American Horror Story: Roanoke

The Tar Heel State cashes in for full terror via its best Netflix show. If you want to virtually explore the creepy woods and colonial history of North Carolina, you need only check out American Horror Story: Roanoke.

As was previously mentioned in this post, American Horror Story is an anthology series that takes its viewers to a different creepy locale every season. Season 6 saw the show heading out to North Carolina, where a young couple was trying to start a new life by fixing up an old house. Roanoke, the famed lost colony, became the subject of their horrors, as ghosts came back to terrorize them and a camera crew that had signed on to document their story.

As with some of the other shows on this list, American Horror Story: Roanoke does not necessarily depict its state in the best light. North Carolina comes off as very rich in history, but equally rich in things that go bump in the night.

Nevertheless, even though the show won’t exactly inspire you to book a trip to the oldest corners of North Carolina, it will fascinate you. The series relies heavily on its setting to set the mood for its terrors and you won’t easily forget its dark shadows and thick foliage.
